Private Tutors for 7 Year Olds & Up

If you would like your child to sit for the 7+ or 8+ entrance examinations, you will work with one of our Nightingale tutors who specialise in teaching younger pupils. Our specialist KS1 tutors have extensive experience preparing children to sit these exams and know what it takes to receive offers from London’s most academically selective schools. Not only is there more focus on creating a fun & exciting learning environment at this age, but we will be teaching your child brand new skills like exam technique alongside advanced numeracy and literacy skills.

The 7+ assessment focuses on three key areas; maths, english & verbal reasoning. Some schools like to see your child in other environments like a PE class or art class and other more schools ask for an informal interview or open day to observe your child.

The 8+ assessment is a step up. Children looking to gain admission to these schools in Year 4 will need a better understanding of maths, particularly multiplication and be able to write at a higher, more sophisticated level for the English assessment.

With all this in mind, we think it’s important to begin this process early. Building the skills needed for 7+ & 8+ across maths, english and reasoning takes time. Children at this age cannot cope with last minute cramming; our tutors will carry out a thorough academic assessment to identify areas to improve and design a detailed long-term plan moving forward.
